A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

THE DUNDEE GUERRILLA FILM FESTIVAL

TWELVE ARTISTIC HAPPENINGS.
One per month,
for a year.

Each Happening will be comprised of three parts:

THE SCREENING
A film, representative of themes in the happening, selected to set the evening’s tone.

THE EXHIBITION
A body of work, created and presented by the month’s artist, discussing key issues dear to them.

THE RESPONSE
A chance for the audience to become involved: crafting, discussion, and artistic response.

OUR MANIFESTO.

  • Now that media distribution is dominated by streaming and digital downloads, what do you own?

The cultural shift towards digitisation is not for your convenience. It is becoming clear that copyright laws cannot be trusted to serve the interests of those making work, or those who desire to engage with it. They are designed to financially benefit the corporations who govern the creation and distribution of media.

All of our participating artists are invited to consider how best they might challenge any and all laws which inhibit the sharing, reproduction, and transformation of creative works. Especially media produced in particularly inhumane circumstances, where artists have not been compensated fairly for their work, through crunch, suboptimal contracting, union-busting, or otherwise. This represents a growing problem in all artistic communities, one which deserves to be discussed, and is the festival’s primary focus.

  • Inspiration should be available to all curious enough to search for it. The right to even exist in a public space now has a price. We want to strip back the financial barriers to sharing art, and as a result, the Guerrilla Film Festival has no tickets. It charges no admission.

Instead, to support a culture of radical artistic exchange, each Screening will facilitate the non-profit trading of artistic materials, from zines and badges, to games and films. Bring your work, and be ready to swap.

    We want to see it.

  • Here and now is an alarming place to be. The Guerrilla Film Festival seeks to ground itself firmly in the social, political, and physical landscape of Dundee by offering screenings that pertain personally to artists who live and work here. The messages they carry, and the translations of these themes in their work, will serve to highlight the most urgent problems our community is facing.

Together we can discuss the ways in which we are all affected, and how best to address them through fellowship, compassion, and collective action.
